Meiji Shrine & Harajuku

On Monday, we took Amy and Sebastian to Harajuku. Our first stop was Meiji Jingu (Shrine) - it was especially interesting, since they were in the process of decorating and setting up for New Year's, the biggest holiday for the Japanese. The white lanterns along the path are special for New Year's.

Decorations for the year of the cow/ox.

Selling good luck charms.

People buying New Year's stuff. You can buy plaques with a picture of a cow/ox that is blank on the back so you can write a prayer or wish for the new year. My new favorite is the hamaya - a demon-breaking arrow that is supposed to ward off bad luck.

After Meiji Jingu, we walked through Takeshita Dori, a cool shopping street.

Then we walked to Shibuya (the world's busiest intersection) to meet Chris, who had to work a half-day.

Then we ate at Kua A'ina, our favorite Hawaiian burger place.

On our walk back to the station, we noticed this very expensive display of REAL roses.
