Diabutsu

We decided to join the Japanese crowds and head for the temples on January 2nd. We took Amy and Sebastian to Kamakura, home of the Diabutsu (the Big Buddha) and Enoshima Island. Lottie was excited for the trip (at the train station).

We'd forgotten about the post-New Year's sales until we saw the line to get into the department store at 10 AM. When the doors opened, everyone literally ran inside. Must have been some good sales!

Instead of shopping, we visited the Diabutsu. Since it was still the New Year's holiday season, there were a lot of people. It's traditional to visit a shrine or temple on New Year's. Here we are in front of the Big Buddha.

Amy (Good)'s great picture of the incense in front of the Buddha.

I put the kids down to take some pictures, and it turned into a giant photo shoot for all the Japanese as well. There was some disappointment when I picked Lottie back up - they weren't done taking pictures of them! The Japanese, ultimate connoisseurs of the cute (in Japanese, kawaii).

Notice he is no longer afraid of Buddha. They have called a truce. Sebastian taught him that Buddha is a teacher, and that is apparently all it took.

Lottie, Amy, and Adam by the Buddha's sandals. In case, you know, he ever decides to get up and pick up some Taco Bell.
