Disney Monday Morning - Animal Kingdom

After opening the kids' St. Nicholas gifts, we headed out bright and early to Animal Kingdom. If you stay at a Disney resort, you can use their Magic Hours (one or two parks are open either one hour early or three hours late, only for resort guests). Although it was drizzling, we were ready to go.

We had to wait at the Tree of Life for the characters to head over to their posts at Camp Minnie Mickey.

We stopped to check out the Tree of Life on our way to the safari.

Our first stop (since Adam and Lottie were too short to ride the roller coaster) was the Kilimanjaro Safaris. We all had a great time. We didn't get to see the giraffes (boo!), but we did see elephants, rhinos, lions, and lots of other animals. The jeep also goes pretty fast and bumps around, which was also fun for the kids.

Then we walked the Jungle Trek and the Forest Trail. We especially liked the gorillas and the tigers.

Then we decided to try meeting a few characters. Adam has been afraid of anything large and furry for quite a long time, but we'd been working with him prior to the trip. It paid off - he was a little tentative with Baloo and King Louie, but did not cry or run away.

Adam and Lottie loved Lilo and Stitch. Lottie kept stroking Lilo's hair. Animal Kingdom was a good place to meet the characters since they were all decked out in holiday garb. Camp Minnie Mickey also had a bunch of Christmas trees, decorated for each character. We didn't have time to meet many characters, but Pocahontas was ready for a picture. Although Adam isn't really into princesses, he did think she was pretty!
